There are lots of ways extra time can be spent protecting Lorne’s beautiful environment and/or preserving our amenities.

A number of citizen science projects are always looking for help. Lorne has people counting platypus, whales, and we’re about to track the ecodiversity of the foreshore area, if we can get the volunteers. A range of different groups are involved. For details about who to contact, email us at committee@friendsoflorne.org.au

In conjunction with Birdlife Australia we will be protecting a hooded plover nest on the main beach from late October for 5-6 weeks. If you wish to become a trained Birdlife volunteer, it’s easy. Contact Janice Carpenter at janicejohnoz@yahoo.com.au

Do you fancy pulling out weeds and tidying up some of our beauty spots with a happy group, once a month or whenever you can? Stony Creek was once overrun with blackberry, but it is now a thriving diverse ecosystem, thanks to the work of Lorne Care. For details about who to contact, email us at committee@friendsoflorne.org.au

On the first Sunday of every month at 8.30am, an ever-expanding group assembles in front of HAH Cafe to pick up rubbish for an hour or so on the beach and around the foreshore area. Gloves, litter tongs, bags etc are all supplied. Just show up. But email us at committee@friendsoflorne.org.au if you would like to be put in contact with the local organiser.

Maybe you are a whizz with software and spreadsheets or love rostering? That is something you can do for us from the comfort of your own home. It would make the world of difference if we could get some help with some admin tasks. Contact us for details at committee@friendsoflorne.org.au

Is advocacy, letter writing and policy submissions more your style? Let us know please. Or if you want to research topics and write for our Newsletters. Contact the committee@friendsoflorne.org.au

We have vacancies on the Friends of Lorne committee. We meet about 8 times a year (face-to-face or Zoom). The committee is the engine room of our organisation. We know that being on a committee sounds dull. But the work is important and the people are terrific! Email us at committee@friendsoflorne.org.au

Or do you see something we are not doing, but should be? And you could help?  Let us know at committee@friendsoflorne.org.au

THANK YOU. We know that lolling about in the water or walking in the forests is what many of us come here for. But Lorne’s beauty is the result of Nature and the past efforts of some very good people. Get involved. It will be appreciated now and for the next generation.
